The PawSox begin their first road trip of the season tonight...an eight game affair beginning with four with the Louisville Bats. Here are some notes on tonight's game.
Louisville Bats (5-3)
The Bats hold their home opener coming off a successful road trip where they took three of four in Moosic over the Sranton Wilkes/Barre Yankees.
LHP Adam Pettyjohn (0-0 2.57 ERA) toes the mound for the Bats tonight. he pitched seven innings, giving up two runs in his opener in Syracuse. He did not factor in getting the decision.
Much has been made of the Bats' Jay Bruce (.333, 1 HR, 5 RBI) , the highly touted outfielder in the Cincinnati chain. But he's not the offensive story through the team's first eight games. That is reserved for IF Jolbert Cabrera (.375, 5 doubles, 5 RBI, seven game hitting streak) and IF/OF Jerry Hairston (.500, six game hitting streak)
The Bats will host this year's Triple A All-Star Game in July.
Pawtucket Red Sox (6-2)
The PawSox begin their first road trip of the season off the heels of their four game sweep over Lehigh Valley at McCoy. Their 6-2 record equals the club's best start since 1991. the PawSox and Bats split 8 games a year ago.
The PawSox have still not filled the roster spot vacated by the call-up yesterday of IF Jed Lowrie to Boston.
Tonight's pitcher, RHP Davern Hansack, enters the game 0-1 with a 9.00 ERA. In his opening start, he yeilded 4 runs on 7 hits over 4 innings in a 5-4 loss to Indianapolis.
OF Jonathan Van Every (.333, 3 hr, 7 RBI) and OF Chris Carter (.370, 4 RBI) continue to lead the PawSox at the plate.
You can catch the game on 920 WHJJ beginning at 7pm.
