PawSox fall to Bats 8-5

The Pawtucket Red Sox fell behind early and could not recover as they fell to the Louisville Bats 8-5 last night at Slugger Field in Louisville.

PawSox starter Davern Hansack (0-2) took the loss giving up three runs in the first inning. He was forced to leave the inning after being struck on his pitching arm on a ball hit by Andy Phillips. Edgar Martinez came in to relieve Hansack, but didn't fare much better, giving up three runs over three and a third innings. Dan Kolb also gave up a pair of runs in the middle innings of the game. Craig Hansen pitched another scoreless inning in relief, as did Lee Gronkiewicz.

Dusty Brown laced a three run homer in the second for three of the PawSox runs. Brandon Moss also contributed at the plate, collecting two hits.

Bats starter Adam Pettyjohn pitched just well enough to earn the win. He gave up all five PawSox runs over six innings of work.

Five Bats' hitters collected two hits in the game. Reds' top prospect Jay Bruce contributed with a solo homer in the second.

Game two of the series is set for this afternoon (2:15pm) as the PawSox send LHP Michael Tejera (0-0, 5.79 ERA) to the mound against Justin Lehr (1-0, 1.13 ERA) for the Bats.
