PawSox Take Down Bulls, 5-3

The PawSox scored five runs in the fifth inning, and that was enough to over take the Durham Bulls, 5-3, in a rain delayed affair yesterday evening at Durham Bulls Athletic Park.

After the second rain delay in the fourth, both starters, Mitch Talbot for the Bulls, and Charlie Zink for the PawSox, did not return to the game with the Bulls leading 3-0. Left up to the bullpen, the PawSox had the upper hand, and cashed in in the fifth against Bulls reliever Steve Andrade.

Gil Velazquez led off with a singe and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Jonathan Van Every singled Thurston to third then stole second. Joe Thurston laced a double to right, scoring Velazquez and Van Every. After Keith Ginter popped out, Thurston stole third. Jed Lowrie drove in Thurston on a single to center to give Pawtucket the lead. Brandon Moss followed with a triple then scored on a Dusty Brown base hit.

Lowrie and Brown each had two hits for the PawSox. Chris Carter was held hitless, ending his 11 game hitting streak.

Durham scored one run off Zink in the second on a Josh Elliot RBI double. The other two runs runs came against Jose Vaquedano in the fourth, a homer by John Rodriguez and a ground out by Fernando Perez.

Vaquedano (1-0) worked three innings in relief to pick up the win. Hunter Jones and Chris Smith pitched the remaining three innings in scoreless fashion. Smith earned his 6th save.

Talbot was rolling along, pitching three scoreless innings on only one hit before being removed after the second rain delay. Andrade (0-1) took the loss.

The two teams will wrap-up their four game series tonight as Devern Hansack (2-6) faces Jeremy Cummings (4-0).
