Bulls Blank PawSox, 6-0

Durham pitcher Jeremy Cummings was masterful, leading the Durham Bulls to a 6-0 shutout of the PawSox last night, earning a split of their four game series.

Cummings (5-0) pitched seven shutout innings, giving up only five hits, striking out 11 and walking no one. He has won all five starts this season.

As good as Cummings was, PawSox pitcher Kyle Snyder (1-3) struggled for the second straight outing since returning from a groin injury. He may have re-injured his groin, leaving the game after only a 1/3 of an inning. He was charged with four runs on four hits. He also walked three and struck out no one.

Jon Switzer came on in relief and pitched 3 and 2/3 innings of scoreless ball. Edgar Martinez finished the game for Pawtucket, surrendering two runs on six hits over four innings of work.

Elliot Johnson led the Durham attack, going 3 for 4 with a double and an RBI. Fernando Perez, Jon Weber, and Dan Johnson each had two of the Bulls 12 hits. Catcher Mike DeFelice drove in two runs for Durham.

The PawSox collected seven hits with Joe Thurston and Jed Lowrie getting two apiece. Brandon Moss did get a hit to extend his hitting streak to 11 games.

The PawSox continue their North Carolina swing with the first of four games tonight in Charlotte against the Knights. Devern Hansack (2-6) throws for Pawtucket against former PawSox pitcher Tomo Ohka (1-8).

NOTE- The Red Sox announced that Justin Masterson will likely be called up to pitch tonight as the Sox begin a series with Tampa Bay. He will fill the spot in the rotation left by the injured Daiseke Matsuzaka. Masterson takes the roster spot of David Ortiz, who was placed on the disabled list yesterday with a partially torn tendon in his left wrist.
