Kottaras, Carter Lead PawSox to Sweep

The Pawtucket Red Sox used a pair of home runs to lead them to a double header sweep over the Norfolk Tides, ironically by identical 4-2 scores.

George Kottaras broke up a 1-1 tie in the fifth inning of game one by blasting a three-run homer to left center field in the fifth. It was Kottaras' eighth homer of the season.

In game two Chris Carter belted a two run shot in the bottom of the eighth giving Pawtucket the win in walk-off fashion. The homer was Carter's second of the year. He was also 4 for 7 in the twin bill.

The PawSox were bolstered in both games by solid starting pitching. Bartolo Colon made his second start for the PawSox in game one. Limited to 55 pitches, he threw three innings, giving up one run on four hits, striking out two and walking no one. He threw 49 pitches, 36 of which were strikes.

Jon Switzer (3-0) pitched 1 1/3 innings, giving up one run but earning the win. Chris Smith picked-up his third save of the season.

Michael Tejera pitched six innings in game two. He surrendered both Tide runs (one earned) on only two hits. He walked three and struck out five. Abe Alvarez and Edgar Martinez each pitched a scoreless inning with Martinez (1-0) securing the victory in the extra frame.

Sean Casey and Alex Cora made their final rehab starts for the PawSox in game one. Casey went 1 for 2 with a double and two runs scored. Cora ended the game 0 for 3. Both men are expected to be activated by the Red Sox today in Minnesota.

Jonathan Van Every had a sold night, going a combined 3 for 5. Chad Spann and Gil Velazquez drove in runs for the PawSox in game two.

The two clubs play game three of their four game series this afternoon (1:05pm). Chris Waters (0-1) will pitch for Norfolk. Charlie Zink (3-2) goes for the PawSox.

Work kept me away from McCoy yesterday...and Mother's Day keeps me away today. So no preview. My mom and my wife out rank this enjoyable, but non-paying, hobby. Expect a game story later in the day. Happy Mother's Day!
