Homers Do In PawSox, 8-5

The Pawtucket Red Sox pitching staff gave up two home runs, accounting for five runs, as the PawSox fell to the Syracuse Chiefs, 8-5, this afternoon at Alliance Bank Stadium.

PawSox starter David Pauley (2-2) gave up seven runs over four-plus innings of work in taking the loss. He was victimized by a three run homer by DH Russ Adams in the Chiefs' four-run third. He gave up three more runs in the fifth on three hits.

The Chiefs' final run came in the bottom of the seventh on a solo home run by 2B Jorge Velandia off Jon Switzer.

Offensively the PawSox were able to do damage against the Chiefs' pitching staff. Jeff Bailey, George Kottaras, Sandy Madera, Jonathan Van Every, and Gil Velazquez each had two hits. Bailey had a pair of doubles to raise his batting average to .298. He also had two doubles.

OF Sean Danielson made his PawSox debut after being promoted from Portland. He started in right field and went 0 for 3 with a walk.

Syracuse starter John Parrish (4-0) won his fourth straight start despite giving up four runs over 6 1/3 innings.

The teams wrap up their four game series tomorrow afternoon (2:00pm) as LHP Michael Tejera (1-2, 4.57) throws for Pawtucket. LHP David Purcey (3-1, 1.64) will go for Syracuse.
