Outfielder Steve Pearce belted two homers and drove in all 5 Indianapolis' runs in the Indians 5-4 win over the PawSox last night at Victory Field.
Last season's MiLB.com's Minor League Player of the Year, Pearce delivered a grand slam to centerfield in the third and added a solo shot to left in the fifth. The two homers were his first of the season.
PawSox catcher George Kottaras continues to produce at the plate. He ended the game 2 for 4 with a double, a homer, and two RBI's. He has homered in two straight games and has raised is average to .305.
OF Jonathan Van Every and DH Dusty Brown also collected two hits apiece, and both are also over the .300 mark for the season, (.300 and .303 respectively)
Van Every accounted for one of the other PawSox runs with an RBI single in the fifth. Newcomer Jeff Natale drove Van Every with a run producing single in the seventh.
PawSox starter Michael Tejera (0-2, 5.74 ERA) pitched 5 2/3 innings, gave up all five runs and took the loss. Indians starter John Van Benschoten (3-0, 2.60 ERA) pitched five innings, giving up only one run to secure the win.
The two teams will wrap up their four game set tonight (7:15pm) as the PawSox send RHP Charlie Zink (1-1, 3.65) to the hill. He'll be opposed by RHP Bryan Bullington (0-1, 3.71) for the Indians.
