The Pawtucket Red Sox saw their offense go flat as they fell to the Indianapolis Indians 3-0 last night at Victory Field in Indiana.
The game was a pitching duel early as PawSox starter David Pauley (1-1) and the Indians' Ty Taubenheim (1-2) kept things scoreless through five innings. The Indians scored in the bottom of the sixth off Pauley on a pair of doubles by CF Andrew McCutchen and DH Steve Pearce.
Pauley was relieved in the bottom of the seventh at which time the Indians put two more runs on the board. With one out and LHP Jon Switzer on the mound, LF Kevin Thompson doubled and 1B Adm Boeve singled. Switzer was replaced by Dan Kolb who committed a balk to force in Thompson. SS Josh Wilson then singled in Boeve to close out the scoring.
The PawSox were only able to muster three hit in the game, one double each by Joe Thurston, George Kottaras, and Dusty Brown.
Taubenheim rebounded from two rough outings to start the season to get the win. Pauley was pegged with the loss.
The two teams will play a matinee (2:00pm) this afternoon as lefty Abe Alvarez (1-0, 2.84 ERA) is slated to get a start for Pawtucket against the Indians' Luis Munoz (1-0, 4.22 ERA).
