Jeff Bailey and Keith Ginter homered for the PawSox, driving in all the team's runs in its 5-1 win this afternoon over the Buffalo Bisons at McCoy.
Bailey's three-run blast came in the bottom of the fifth off Bisons' starter Sean Smith, driving in Gil Velazquez and Jonathan Van Every. Ginter drove in OF Bryan Pritz with his homer in the eighth.
The PawSox received a solid starting performance in a fill-in role from Edgar Martinez. Martinez replaced David Pauley, who was held back in the event he is needed in Boston tomorrow to fill-in for the ailing Clay Buchholz. Buchholz is battling flu-like symptoms. Martinez pitched 4 1/3 scoreless innings, giving up four hits and walking three.
Jon Switzer pitched 2 1/3 innings, giving up the only Buffalo run in the top of the sixth. His effort was good enough for him to earn the win. Eric Hull and Lee Gronkiewicz closed out the game without giving up a run.
Smith took the loss for the Bisons.
The two teams wrap-up their three game series tomorrow afternoon (12:05pm) at McCoy.
