Game 68- Bats vs. PawSox, June 11, 2008

The PawSox have not lost four in a row all season, and will look to avoid that distinction as they take on the Louisville Bats tonight (7:05 pm) at McCoy in game two of their four game series. RHP Ramon Ramirez (2-0, 6.06) pitches for Louisville opposed by RHP Edgar Martinez (2-1, 4.61) for the PawSox.

I have returned to my perch in the McCoy press box. Here is our view of tonight's game...

With last night's 8-7 win the Bats now find themselves alone atop the IL west Division, one game ahead of Toledo. The Bats have had great success against the members of the IL North, posting a 15-6 record thus far this season.

Ramirez makes his third start of the season tonight. He has been with the club since May 24th. In his last outing he received a no decision in the Bats' 13-12 loss to Toledo. Ramirez threw four innings, giving up seven earned runs on seven hits. He has been floating around the Reds' organization since 2003.

Roster moves today for the Bats...LHP Camillo Vazquez has been called up from Single-A Sarasota. He was 3-2 with a 4.75 ERA with the Sarasota Reds.

Anderson, who knocked in the winning run last night, is currently on an 8-game hitting streak, over which he is hitting .455. Rosales comes in hitting in six straight, batting an even .500

Despite the three game losing streak the PawSox still find themselves firmly in third place in the IL North Division, still two games behind Scranton/Wilkes Barre. By winning tonight Pawtucket will avoid its first four game home losing streak since April of 2007.

Martinez has been asked to do a lot for Manager Ron Johnson this season and tonight he will make his second straight start and third of the season. He pitched extremely well in his last outing, throwing five innings, giving up to runs on four hits in a victory at Charlotte. Johnson is hopeful Martinez can duplicate that effort tonight..

"He picked us up last time in a spot start" said Johnson, "If we can get 4 or 5 innings out of him I’ll be really pleased. He's done a nice job in that role…and it’s a real good opportunity for him."

A trio of PawSox hope to keep their hot streaks alive. Jed Lowrie enters the game with a 12 game hitting streak, going .383 over that stretch with four doubles, a triple, a homer, and 8 RBI's. Chris Carter has a five game streak, hitting .364 with two doubles, three homers, and 8 RBI's. Joe Thurston has hit in five of six games, with .444 batting average, along with a double, two homers, and five RBI's

Check in often as we will be providing updates throughout the game.
