Spann, Pauley Lead PawSox over Red Wings, 9-1

PawSox starter David Pauley won his fourth consecutive start and IF Chad Spann drove in five runs as the PawSox beat the Rochester Red Wings, 9-1, last night at McCoy.

Pawtucket broke up a 1-1 tie late in the game, scoring three runs in the sixth, one in the seventh, and four more in the eighth.

Spann's five RBI's came despite his going only 1 for 3, and that hit being a single. His single drove in two in the eighth. He also collected a fielder's choice RBI in the second, a bases loaded walk in the sixth, and a sacrifice fly in the seventh.

Pauley pitched six innings, allowing only one run on four hits. He walked four and struck out six. He also hit a batter. Eric Hull and Chris Smith pitched three scoreless innings to close out the game.

The PawSox collected 12 hits. Chris Carter had three of them (3 for 4). Joe Thurston (2 for 5), Brandon Moss (2 for 4), and Gil Velazquez (2 for 5) had two hits apiece. All three drove in a run. Jeff Bailey added the other RBI, also on a bases loaded walk.

The two teams wrap-up their four game series tonight (6:05) at McCoy. Clay Buchholz is slated to make a rehab start for Pawtucket. Lefty Brian Duensing will pitch for the Red Wings.
