PawSox Fail to Hold Lead, Fall To Bisons 6-5

The Pawtucket Red Sox bullpen could not protect the lead late in the game, allowing the Buffalo Bisons to over take the PawSox 6-5 last night in Buffalo.

The PawSox held a 5-3 advantage going into the bottom of the eighth when the Bisons scored three runs to take the lead off Pawtucket reliever Lincoln Holdzkom (3-1). The scoring came on a two run double by Ryan Mulhern and a sacrifice fly by Josh Barfield.

The blown save and loss negated a respectable job done by Pawtucket starter Kyle Snyder and relievers Edgar Martinez and Jose Vaquedano. The trio gave up only one run each over their combined eight innings on the mound.

Pawtucket had broken up a 1-1 tie in the fifth, scoring three runs of their own on a two run homer by Jeff Bailey (his 9th of the season) and a RBI double by Jed Lowrie. Bailey drove in the PawSox fifth run on an RBI single in the eighth, scoring Chad Spann.

The Pawsox' first run of the game came on a solo homer by Joe Thurston in the first.

Bailey, Thurston, and Dusty Brown each had two hits for Pawtucket. Bailey's 3 RBI gives him a team high 28 for the season.

Mulhern had three hits and drove in two for Buffalo. Jason Moore added a pair of hits, including a solo homer. Rich Rundles (4-1) picked up the victory in relief. Rick Bauer secured his ninth save.

Game two is tonight (7:05pm) at Dunn Tire Park. David Pauley (3-2) will throw for Pawtucket. He faces Adam Miller (0-0) for Buffalo.
