PawSox Bats Continue to Sizzle

The PawSox offense scored in double figures for the third time in five games this afternoon at McCoy as Pawtucket earned a share of the IL North Division lead with a convincing 11-5 win over the Scranton/Wilkes Barre Yankees.

Pawtucket hit a season-high six home runs in the game. Jeff Bailey hit two (14 for the year) and was joined in the hit parade by George Kottaras (his 9th), Jonathan Van Every (8), Keith Ginter (3), and Gil Velazquez (his first of 2008). That quintet drove in ten of the PawSox' runs. Brandon Moss knocked in run number 11.

Charlie Zink pitched eight strong innings in picking up his sixth victory of the season. He gave up three earned runs on five hits. He walked two and struck out three.

Yankee farmhand Jeff Karstens took his second consecutive loss, both to Pawtucket. He lasted only 3 2/3 innings giving up six runs on seven hits. Relievers Billy Traber and Steven White fared no better, yielding two homers apiece during their stints on the mound.

Game two of the series is tomorrow night (7:05pm) at McCoy. RHP Dan Giese (4-2, 1.01) will start for the Yankees while RHP Kyle Snyder (1-1, 3.71) will throw for the PawSox.
