This is the third season with the PawSox for first baseman/outfielder Jeff Bailey. In 2007 Bailey experienced his first taste of the majors when he was called up mid-season to spell an ailing Kevin Youkilis. During that time Bailey belted his first big league homer, his only hit during his three game stint with the Red Sox.
Here is what Bailey had to say during yesterday's PawSox Media Day at McCoy.
On whether he considers himself the veteran of the team:
"I guess you can say I'm the veteran on the team but it's comfortable for me. I like coming back. It's a comfortable environment. I know all the people, all the coaches. It's easier when it's comfortable."
On the importance of the local PawSox fan base being supportive of the team:
"It's very important. The difference between here and Boston is that the people don't get on you when you play bad. That's the nice thing. They love you when you play good. You're coming out on the positive side of both of those."
On whether he will see some time at first base:
"I don't think so. I think Moss will get most of the playing time at first base. I will be playing first base. I will be playing outfield. And when necessary I can catch and play third base."
On what he needs to do to get back to Boston in 2008:
"I need to hit left handed pitching better. I don't know what's going on up (in Boston). That's what I'm setting out to do...hit left handed pitchers really well and whatever happens, happens."
